...I wouldn't buy a revolver for self defense against human predators, and I probably wouldn't buy a .45 ACP revolver for anything.

If I had any reason to prefer a revolver that size over a semi-auto I'd probably go for a .357 mag or .41 mag instead of .45 ACP...I kind of understand the semi-auto caliber in a .38 Special-sized revolver using 9mm ammo because there are some respectable 9mm loads that might trump the available revolver loads in a gun that size. But that .45 ACP revolver is almost as big as a .44 magnum and there are simply more effective calibers for it than .45 ACP.

I think you goofed here. This handgun was clearly marketed for self-defense, period. It's not a woods loafer. To that end, if you are going to use a revolver, it's faster to reload a .45ACP with moon clips than a rimmed cartridge with speedloaders. Also, a magnum in those guns with their lightweight Scandium frames is going to recoil harder and more uncomfortably than a .45ACP, with slower times back on target. And if this were used indoors or in close quarters (think POV), the magnums are much louder and will be more damaging to your unprotected ears. Finally, in this day and age, there are simply far more good self-defense loads for the .45ACP than for the .357 Mag--and especially the .41 Mag.
