Harvey G on the P88: "Beautiful pistol..."
Harvey and Harvey, You both seem to have found the Walthers you owned beautiful and well-made. While I don't question the quality, I don't see the beauty. Obviously this is in the eye of the beholder, but both the P88 and P5 series seem to have a number of extra external levers, bars and buttons that take something away from their beauty, as it were. (In my mind at least. ) While Walthers, SIGs, and HKs will always look Teutonic to my eye, that is: well-engineered, solidly built, functional to the Nth degree, "beauty" is not really a word I would apply to them. In the handgun world, one that has beauty is sleek, without many protruding levers or buttons. It has function, because that is a must, but it has form in the steel. The Colt Government Model, the Colt Model M, the Colt Pocket Hammer, the Browning P35. The Luger Pistole '08, although lacking some sleekness has beauty in form. Perhaps I have not looked closely at all these later Walthers, because the P38 is a junkyard dog. Have you fellas got some photos in the galleries you can post in this thread, especially of the P88? (Mark doesn't want to look them up. ) I like the looks of the P5c which started this thread, but more for its business-like appearance than what I see as intrinsic beauty. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: >>I really liked that little P5C as it was an improved, cut down P38 and was very accurate and reliable<< I would have loved to have a P5C, as the P-88 and even the P-88C is a tad large for my hand. However, next to the GSP, it's the most accurate semi-auto that I own. Harvey/ Ga |
