For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Since we're talking about backward ammo... I took a newly-purchased 686 revolver to the Oakland County, Michigan Sheriff's Department to be registered once long ago. When that process was finished, I walked down the stairs to their indoor range where a friend of mine, the department armorer, had his shop. He looked the gun over and as a favor took a couple of turns off the rebound spring to lighten the pull slightly. While he was working on the gun, I watched a female deputy on the range trying to qualify with the shotgun. She was obviously having trouble racking the gun or making it fire so I called my buddy over and we went into to the range proper to see what her problem was. The lady had inserted a round backward into the magazine which bound the gun up! My buddy had to take the loaded shotgun (a Remington 870, if memory serves but I could be wrong) into his shop to disassemble it enough to get the errant round out. While he was working on the gun, the deputy complained to me nonstop about why she hated shotguns and didn't know why she, a juvenile officer, even had to qualify with one! All I could think was that she might not always be a juvie officer or that she might someday be required to bring in an armed juvenile with other ideas! Stu |
