The 1920 was simply a mark to indicate that the firearm belonged to the German military (and police) for the purpose of counting weapons against the limitations imposed on Germany by the Treaty of Versailles. It also identified that a firearm, in the hands of a civilian, had it illegally. It wasn't a date as many thought.

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Apparently this was an indication it was exempt from German government confiscation, as far as I am finding. This apparently didn't have anything to do with the treaty requirements after the war ended. |
