I have four red dot sights installed on 1911s using that type of base and getting the right base is sometimes a challenge. I needed one for a Bomar slide cut and dovetail, and three for Novak cuts and dovetails. I got the base for a Burris Fastfire III sight from Burris with no trouble but the others were for Leupold DeltaPoint sights and Leupold doesn't make bases for Bomar or Novak cuts. I called Leupold and was told that J-Point sight bases will work so I ordered the ones I needed. Then I found out the sight mounting screws that came with the J-Point mounts were not the correct length for the Leupold sights so I had to find some that were. I think the screws that now come in the box from Leupold with the sight will work but I haven't yet tested that theory. I bought a mounting base kit from Leupold that was supposed to adapt to nearly anything but it included some plastic parts that allow the sight to move on the gun and I switched to the all-metal J-point bases.
There is apparently no standard for red dot sight mounts so getting one on a gun can be a pain! |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Hi Mark, I would prefer a dovetail mount like the photo. You can get them for most pistols. Probably not a good choice for carry. Frank Image below from FrankWhiton - Image Title: Red Dot Dovetail Mount |
