I can see the tiny optic for handguns (even though I'm NOT ready to go that route), as we are used to similar tiny sights on handguns, but I think smallish but full tube optics on rifles are still the way to go. | ||||||

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: I would go for the modern dovetail and mini-optic, I think, even though I haven't tried one. The set-up in my picture was less than comfortable to grip and definitely top-heavy and ungainly. After my initial play with it, it came off and I returned the pistol to its stock configuration. The end purpose would drive the decision, of course. On a race gun, the big optic might be considered an advantage, both from easier target acquisition and recoil-absorbing weight. My objective today would be for defensive use including carry, if anything, where concealment and light weight would be stronger considerations. The pictured open-top holographic sight is bigger than I remember it. It seems to have wandered off somewhere after I removed it from the gun and I haven't seen it in years! I think it would have been better for my current purposes than the full-tube red dot I still have, which sits on my M4 carbine waiting patiently to be sighted in.. . Stu |
