I'll be willing to listen when good stuff comes around. I've bought some turkeys in my day and I've also overspent on stuff (Norwegian 1911, and then the Colt 1918 1911) and thought they were too good to be true. You could tell that collector that showed me the differences felt a little bad as being the guy to point out where I had gone wrong.
Still, it was appreciated. Sometimes those books are rare specialty expert kind of books where it costs a pretty penny just to get them. The Internet... you get what you pay for right away. Yes, I have run across it. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: I always try to be honest and open about guns and though I don't like to slap anyone in the face, I don't mind dumping a pail of water on anyone's head, up to including you or my son. Nor do I mind getting a bucket of cold water myself sometimes when I have come up up sideways on a particular topic. Sometimes I just need to get out there and do some more reading when that happens. Or talk to friends who've been at it longer than I. (One reason I value this forum.) My only regret is that with the general Internet so readily at hand, perhaps too few people read books anymore, and even when good web sources exist, don't know how to separate authoritative web sources from trash. I don't know if you've run across this in your dealings with people but I have. |
