I didn't want a TAPCO mag on this one, I wanted an original OEM configuration. I know these are not military issue SKS rifles, but to me, aesthetics are a big part of the package. I much prefer the original issue magazines. They're easy to feed and maintain and to me they just LOOK better. Purely subjective I know. I could have picked up a 10-20 round TAPCO mag and called it a day and probably have it working in 20 minutes. I just thought that the original magazine looked better. I was also thinking about this as a possible Scout Rifle platform, but decided to leave it alone. I've done too many "Scoutish" diversions and it's simply getting out of hand. Since I had the smith put it all together, the gun runs like a scalded ape. Fairly accurate as well. I like the fact that it has a stubby bayonet as well. It's cute. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: You know the Tapco conversions work fine too, most of the time. (I don't know why they are called conversions, there is no real converting going on. ) Eric and I both got the Tapco mags. Mine works like a charm, Eric's doesn't like to feed. I examined our respective rifles and my feed ramp is noticeably wider than his, easily seen with the naked eye. Simple fix but I've not undertaken it, awaiting his go-ahead. Being able to use Tapco mags is not a big deal to him as he has enough modern box mag-fed rifles. Actually it's no big deal to me either, I just wanted to try it out. I do like the original mag. |
