Crazy Cali, eh?
I would have thought that the Winter Warfare site at Pickel Meadows came under the rules of either the Marines or the National Park Service, but stranger things happen in the Golden State. Here are some photos of what it's like there now. When I went there, there was very little built up, and we mostly moved on snow shoes rather than skis. Harvey |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: One snow storm dumped 7 FEET of snow and the thermometer at one point dropped to -20F but the best part involves the California Environmental Rules. As I'm sure it was the same in your times when out in the field if a Marine needs to go to the bathroom he digs a hole, does his business and then buries it. Not the case in California......the Marine did his business in a plastic bag, sealed the bag, placed the bag inside another plastic bag then sealed it as well. The Marine then put the bag in his pack and carried it around with him until he came upon the "Poop Truck" where he could drop off the bag. In some cases the Marine carried the bags around for as many as 5 days! My grandson hopes California is never invaded because the Marines aren't going to lift a finger to help them. Maybe the environment wackos can throw the full bags at the bad guys? |
