I can't get up any enthusiasm for the heavy underlugged five inch anymore. Owned one, sold it, so been there, done that, and I'm over it.
As to this one, I forgot about that stupid lock. Thanks for reminding me why I shouldn't even consider it. As to price, my son mentioned it was over-priced. I told him this same thing--everything's relative. Since a standard assembly line S&W revolver will cost most of your $1000 bill these days, the PC treatment doesn't add that much. And I think if you bought an assembly line gun and had it gunsmithed--assuming you could find someone to do as well as the S&W Performance Center--I highly doubt you could get in for under the price of the 625 PC model. My opinion. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: ICORE and the IDPA Enhanced Revolver (or whatever they call it) class, yes! It's a heck of a revolver but I have similar reservations about that whittled down underlug. It doesn't look as bad as many PC revolvers, though, likely because the barrel is short enough to minimize it. Which brings up another point; they used to have 5", not 4", barrels but S&W cut the barrel length back to, as I recall, conform to IDPA rules. Unless you're shooting that game, wouldn't the 5" gun be more fun and easier to shoot well? Did you notice it had the silly keyhole above the cylinder release? I know that's a turn-off for you and not exactly a positive for me, either... I would have to try those stocks out - they may be small for me - but the colors don't bother me on a primarily competition gun. The price, on the other hand, does. The Performance Center treatment likely does add that much value to a new 625 but couldn't you buy a used one for much less and have it tuned up to your own specifications without the PC bells and whistles - or keyhole?
