It's difficult for me to analyze what it would cost to reproduce the essentials of this revolver by modifying a stock 625! I probably would limit my mods to chamfered cylinder openings, a trigger job and fine-tuning the timing; I don't need the fancy stocks or the underlug trim. To keep you happy, I would stick with a later 4" 625 as well.
If that would put me over the street price of the PC version, then the PC makes more sense, especially for resale value... That doesn't mean I like it any better, though. Stu |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: I can't get up any enthusiasm for the heavy underlugged five inch anymore. Owned one, sold it, so been there, done that, and I'm over it. As to this one, I forgot about that stupid lock. Thanks for reminding me why I shouldn't even consider it. As to price, my son mentioned it was over-priced. I told him this same thing--everything's relative. Since a standard assembly line S&W revolver will cost most of your $1000 bill these days, the PC treatment doesn't add that much. And I think if you bought an assembly line gun and had it gunsmithed--assuming you could find someone to do as well as the S&W Performance Center--I highly doubt you could get in for under the price of the 625 PC model. My opinion. |
