That's pretty clever.  Many years ago Pachmayr offered a plastic tool flat on one end as you describe for that purpose and I have one and still use it.  It is soft and flexible but durable.  I guess back in the day I succumbed to buying rather than making something.

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Me. too, including one on which I've pared the handle end down to a flat tool that lets me depress the slide lock detent of a 1911 when reassembling. Stu
