The Norinco Model of The 1911A1 was a clone of the USGI M1911A1 with one exception, the safety lock ws a Colt commercial type rather than the USGI tab type. A friend from Compuserve bought one at a gun show here in Dayton and since he wasn't a 1911 guy we took it back to my house where I detail-stripped it. It was a true clone in every other way, and quite good, I might add. It was greased with that somewhat diferous Chinese version of Cosmoline, but that stuff does present rust quite wll during the long, humid boat ride over here.
Today Nornico offers far more than the basic GI-style 1911s, which our friends in Cannada enjoy while we do not. I find this irritating because it isn't about the politics of the PRC--we import a crapload of other Chinese products, so it's clearly about guns. Norinco also offers many other firearms, most of them copies of other well-known firearms. In general, Nork guns are good quality, though someties parts are not sufficiently hardened. The Polytech M14S I once owned developed a reputation for soft bolts which contributed to my selling it. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Back when they were legal here, I heard gunsmiths say the were great base guns to customize; metallurgy and dimensions were within mil-specs. Those early ones were brutally simple clones of the 1911A1 but they were solid! Of course, being made in China would give me pause but what can you buy that isn't made there these days!
