Age of the ammo and guns plus I have never trusted top break revolvers.

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: I have old ammo for both calibers but I wouldn't even think about shooting one today even though they appear to be in good mechanical condition with clean bores. Why not?  Mechanical soundness and proper ammo are the basic requirements.
