I don't want to argue with you either--because if you reread my message you'll find I was not arguing with you. I was saying in this case it likely was a bedding problem, but one that could not be fixed in a rack grade rifle due to the reshaping of the receiver.
What I was pointing out in my first paragraph was that the presence of handguards was not the reason military rifles in general lacked accuracy--and sniper rifles of old proved that, as do the same rifles today when tuned and used in competition. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Well, I don’t want to argue with you. You know more about mil-surps then I ever want to know. But, if it isn’t bedding, what is it? Sure, if you put enough effort into it, you can make them very accurate but we are talking about rack grade rifles. On free float barrels- it does make a difference. Name one modern sniper or target bolt rifle that doesn’t have a free float. |
