My stand is right on the edge of the woods, to my right is woodland where a 50 yard shot would be a "long one", to my left are open fields where a shot could be 300 yards or more hence my love of the 30-06 using 150 grain boat tail bullets unless black bear is also open then I step up to a 180 grain boat tail. Yes, I zero the rifle to shoot 2 inches high at 100 yards with the rounds I intend to hunt with, we have both a 75 yard and 100 yard range on camp property. | ||||||

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: You make some excellent points which I can't argue with. I'll just add that some people routinely kill deer at 50 to 100 yards and will never want to shoot any further, due mainly to their location and the type of territory where they hunt. |
