I've seen similar restrictions to yours. Robert has a specific reason for using ball ammo, if legal, and I don't have the smarts or experience to say if that's valid. It's based on a close-up finishing shot having a small exit wound rather than a skull blown apart on a trophy head. Legally, it's likely a no-no in PA, according to him.

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: I have seen references to minimum calibers allowed for hunting medium and big game (it is illegal to hunt deer in Washington State with a .223) but I've never seen anything about bullet spec's other than it was illegal somewhere to hunt with poisoned or explosive projectiles... ...and that may have been in the archery spec's rather than the rifle regs. I have always considered that to be a subject and stuck to a bullet shape and weight that performed best in my rifle and in an animal. |
