You're a man after my own heart, the 30-06 has been getting it done for over 100 years!

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Consider this--it probably takes the "maybe" away from using a .28 caliber bullet on the bigger stuff that worries a lot of hunters.  And if you go to the .270 Weatherby, you get the extra power without getting all the extra recoil you'd get from a Weatherby .300 Magnum. (On the other hand, I'd probably opt for the .30-06 and be done with it.)
