Jerry:
Very bad news about the ammo situation and especially about the bulk-packed Federal .22 at Walmart. A few years ago I was having some trouble with a new Ruger Mk II. Dealing with the problem I had several conversations with Ruger. They eventually had me send it back for rechambering which solved the problem. Anyway, I had a very nice conversation with the very cordial and helpful had of the Mk II program who told me that all their .22 handgun testing was done with bulk-packed Federal from Walmart because it was the best they could find, and it was all he recommended to their customers. I switched to that ammo and never regretted it. Herb |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: I still have a good stock of ammo that I bought during the halcyon days of cheap ammo -- I am frugal with it now. I have not bought any NEW ammo in the last four years. When Natchez still had cheap ammo, I bought two cases of Blazer every time it went on sale. Since I no longer compete, I am in good shape. I am actually more upset about bulk packed Federal Auto Match .22LR. It is excellent ammo, and was cheap. I shot thousands of rounds of it, never had a bad round, and it is consistently excellent. Yet it is bulk packed and and available at Wal-Mart... well, not anymore! |
