For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: I was still young and stupid (as opposed to my current older and stupid) when you made the move to the S&W Third Generation auto pistols, and I didn't follow you. You remember of course how in the 80s/early 90s I was all "Cocked and Locked!" and you were all "TDA!" Turns out we were both right and both wrong; we had not figured out "different strokes for different folks yet," nor had we really heard of Glock. But by the time I moved here and got to know Jerry, also a 3G S&W fan, I finally succumbed. I have an admittedly odd collection of Smith autos, but there are four of them in my safe. I'm not as big a fan of the little fat models as are you and Jerry (6906, 4516), preferring the single stacks or the service model double stacks, but the thing we all agree on, I think, is that the Smith & Wesson Third Generation autos are solid, reliable, robust, well-designed, and very shootable. They are also still found used for good prices as lots of people have dumped them for more glamorous polymer pistols, but I can tell you the aluminum service pistols even are quite light and very packable. My 5904 and 4506-1 even have adjustable sights. Put that in your Glock and smoke it, fellas.
