I can't imagine serving aboard a WWII sub... 
Once we headed out toward the front ladder to the deck there were 6-7 people waiting to climb out and they were packed together. I started to get claustrophic and when we headed up the ladder with people behind us it was worse. Oh no, I couldn't serve on of those boats. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Thanks to Harvey's recollection I think I now remember that part of the movie sequence in the museum theater showed how they moved the U-boat across Lake Shore Drive to get it to the museum. The Museum of Science and Industry was just south of the main downtown area ("the loop") and just across Lake Shore Drive from Lake Michigan. Chicago was a pretty cool town as far as dirty, over-populated, crime-ridden big cities go... I can't imagine serving aboard a WWII sub... |
