The other nice rich-guy thing would be the ability to hire someone to load your magazines...
I reported here years ago that I had the chance to shoot a Glock full auto pistol (the 30??) and a 9mm Colt AR. Unfortunately I had to buy the ammo and load the magazines. It took way longer to load them than to empty them and without a loading tool my fingers were sore before I got the Glock mag filled even the first time! |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: I can relate. I love spending an afternoon shooting someone's ammunition, but I couldn't afford to feed a real machinegun, nor do I have a place to shoot one nearby. The closest place I'm aware of is the Knob Creek Range south of Louisville, KY, and that's a three hour drive. There could well be closer ranges, and no doubt land owners around would allow friends to shoot, but I don't know any large land owners. Without the means to provide case quantities of ammo, and without a nearby range, a machinegun is really a rich man's toy, something he brings out to show off to his pals, but rarely gets to shoot. I'm not really that inclined to just show off something I can't make go bang regularly. (Or bangbangbangbang.) It's not worth the 10, 15, or 20k, even if I could pony up that sort of cash. And the only way to do it would be to have a liquidation sale of many firearms I enjoy and actually can shoot everyday if so inclined. |
