Actually that is true about "press," which doesn't specify a direction in the dictionary, but "pull" in fact does specify something moved toward oneself...in the dictionary.

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: You guys are getting into a semantic fairyland where no such connotations exist!  Press is a totally legitimate term for applying pressure to the trigger - there is no directionality implied.  Pull works, too - the terms aren't mutually exclusive.
