Knowledge is knowledge, and worth having. You cannot think in terms of something being dated. Do you read a history of the Civil War and think to yourself, boy, those soldiers were really not very good or smart as they stuffed their ammo down the the muzzle end of the barrel? How stupid, we simply insert a round in a magazine today?
One lives in the era one is born in and makes the most of what he has. The men of the future wielding electronic weapons hopefully won't look back at you and say you weren't very good or smart because you wielded pistols made of plastic and steel that burned separate combustible cartridges that had to be handled individually. If they have any sense they will say they say you made the most of your era. I just don't like that "dated" appellation. History is history, man. It started yesterday. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: I have a small, but expanding library of reference books. Most are of firearms or eras that I have an interest in. Sometimes I consider them too expensive to consider. Take Ian McCollum's recent book on French Firearms from the Gras to the Famas. I have zero french firearms and have traded off those that I did have. So, at $85, I don't have a lot of interest in his book. My dollar threshold is probably at $50-60 unless I find a rare book that I really want. |
