As best I can tell, the mark on that revolver reads "B of IHT". That suggests a "Bureau of" something but I haven't come up with a an IHT meaning. Maybe it's "IMT"? Still no answer. The gun shows muzzle wear and stock panel wear consistent with an open strong-side holster, so I suspect it was a duty pistol for some uniformed officer for a good part of its life...

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: An addendum to your original question and my original reply. As a property mark, the mark is almost for sure a law enforcement organization property mark, as these were widely use by the police prior to WWII. This mark isn't the norm, but with so many PDs, guard agencies, feds, etc., using Police Positives, someone likely decided to be clever. As much as I like the looks of the old Colt revolvers, I admit I can hardly tell one from another. Well, maybe the Dick Special... Well, the revolver that started this thread is just a "Dick Special" with a longer barrel. I don't know why I said I owned an I-frame in a previous message, as I didn't. I used to own an Army Special, but sold it in the mid-90s. Not sure what I was thinking. The Anaconda was given its own frame designation, and that was about the only Colt I can recall owning after the Army Special. I do own an I-frame now, an Offical Police, but only bought a couple years ago. I'll have to see how old this thread is. ETA: I checked and the thread is only eight months old, so I was obviously talking about my Official Police. |
