10MM is a strange beast. It's been around roughly kinda 40 years plus or minus a few. It died off for a bit and was resurrected. It's probably at the height of its success right now. Ruger is making 10MM Revolvers with the SP101 and Blackhawk Convertible, as well as in its 1911 lineup. Smith and Wesson put it out there in its M&P 2.0 pistols finally. It also resurrected the 610 Revolver line due to competition from Ruger. SIG Sauer has had the P220 chambered in it for the past few years. Springfield Armory has the XDM chambered in it as well. Glock came out with the Glock 40 in its lineup a couple of years ago. EAA has kept its run going as well with the Witness. So, I think the 10MM is doing well. Part of it has to do with throwing stuff to the wall and hoping it sticks, but I've also seen people all over looking for something with more "oomph" This is something I am personally glad to see. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Why didn't the 10MM "make it" as a commercial success? From what little I know it's way more effective than a 9MM or 45ACP? Image below from TJ Parmele - Image Title: Colt Delta Elite 10MM 1911 Image Info: Colt was one of the original pioneers in adapting a combat pistol to the potent 10mm cartridge and the first to successfully manufacture a 10mm caliber pistol in the United States. This one has a ported slide and barrel. I picked it up for a bit of a song. Larger image available! Click image to see it. |
