In my Md 29 which is a 6" when hunting I mostly use a non-hollow point 240 grain jacketed but several of the guys at the Gun club suggest 300 grain hard cast lead, what's your opinion? | ||||||

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: The 9mm is FAR more popular today than the .40S&W, with law enforcement and everyone. In fact if you listen to the pundits they will tell you the .40S&W is dead. The .40S&W is not dead, it isn't even obsolescent, but it has taken a hit in popularity due to a 2014 report from the FBI praising the 9mm. That report caused a knee jerk reaction from law enforcement, resulting in huge numbers of agencies dropping the .40S&W in favor of returning to the 9mm. Still, many still use the .40S&W. See my report 2020: The State of the .40S&W, which is still accurate I think. At any rate, when the police started dropping the .40, many armed citizens did too, and anyone with a video camera and a YouTube account, or a job behind a gun counter started telling everyone they could that the .40 was dead. Those who didn't know better believed it. If I were to venture into brown bear and grizzly country I'd rather have a .44 Magnum than a 10mm. A 10mm is powerful, but it uses lighter, smaller bullets than a .44. If it were black bears I think a 10mm would be okay. |
