Now that CNC machines are industry standard, I don’t think brand means as much as it used to. Even the Turks seem to be turning out some good products. Girsan and Tisas are very popular. They are not Wilson but you are not paying Wilson prices. I see this with AR’s. People that don’t have a wide range of experience will tout their pet brand as being the best. But the truth is most brands are good quality and most any rifle will serve the average shooter if it has the features they want/need. When it comes to reliability in 1911's, I see magazines as the biggest issue. Yes, some mags are better than others but you have to get the mags that work in your gun. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Yeah, but for the greatest part of the first century of 1911s, almost no one but Colt made them, and the few who did only offered cheap "also ran" types, and went out of business quickly. Remember when Smith & Wesson first came out with a 1911 and people were practically shocked? After that the floodgates opened. At least with ARs and Glock clones it seems a majority of them are high quality. |
