Ouch.  Sounds worse than the original "mad minute" as practiced by the British, who were handicapped by bolt actions.

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Yeah, we fired our M1s without any hearing protection (as well as pistols). Probably the worst headache I've ever had was during what we called "mad minute". That was when our entire rifle company would sit on a hillside and fire all of our weapons, using tracers at night, into a gully for a full minute. That was with M1s and BARs. This was post-Korean War, and it was to demonstrate firepower that had been used on some of the hill fighting in Korea. (Yep, the Marines were training to fight the last war, even with practicing "bear walks" in the hills at night.  )
