I used to see a good number of .35 Remingtons among the used lever actions for sale, now not so much, perhaps because they are not as available new anymore and those who like them have swept them up. And perhaps I'm remembering the ones I used to see more in California than Ohio, as well.
FWIW I looked at .357 Magnum rifle loads compared to .35 Remington loads, and there is no comparison. The .357, at least in Lyman's book, doesn't push anything heavier/faster than a 170gr JHC at not quite 1700fps, not the least bit challenging for the .35 Rem. The Magnum can push them a lot faster, but not with heavy bullets. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: I've always heard that the .30-30 and the .35 Remington had similar ballistics but the .35 was capable of handling a bigger bullet. I bought my old Marlin 336 in .35 Remington for standby yard defense but I did take it for a walk out behind the house last year looking for a suicidal deer or elk. I hiked to a rocky perch above the crossing of two game trails but didn't see anything. I'm starting to have trouble seeing the Williams aperture sight and have a short 4X Leupold scope with rings and bases for it, I just need to get around to putting them on. |
