I hear you and "I feel your pain." It is frustrating because we gun geeks can fall in love with a gun that has the looks, but we are, after all shooters, and that's the bottom line, isn't it?
I have a similar gun, though of course not nearly as gorgeous as that old Colt Dick Special you had. Mine is my Ruger Speed-six, one the more attractive of the Ruger "Six series." The issue stocks were walnut, but those were not for shooting with magnum ammo. Pachmayr made their Compac model that made the gun a perfect shooter, and my Speed-six wears those to this day. I think they look good, but do they look like as good as the issue stocks? Image below from Mark Freburg - Image Title: Speed-six Image below from Mark Freburg - Image Title: Speed-six |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: This is yet another one that I regret trading off... It was in excellent condition and a great example of its type. I always liked the steel Detective Special better than its two lightweight stablemates. I have always liked the looks of this series of snubbies from Colt but had never owned one. I bought this one and discovered it didn't fit my hand well enough for me to shoot it as well as I'd hoped. The grip felt odd. I put a Tyler T-grip on it and that seemed to help but I still couldn't shoot it well enough to keep it. My next step would have been to put a larger set of Hogue grips on it and that would have destroyed its looks, which were what attracted me to the gun in the first place. So, I sent it on down the pike to a new owner. In hindsight, I should have just removed the T-grips and framed it... |
