Thanks, not sure when mine was made but condition is excellent so I'm guessing it didn't see a lot of use? The ones we used to qualify in USAF basic training were as close to a "smoothbore" as you could get. The range, if I remember correctly was 1,000 INCHES and shots were scattered far and wide. | ||||||

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: The bayonet lug was approved for standard on 10 May 1944, but would have taken some time to work into the system. The M1A1 folding stock carbines many Airborne troops were known to have used on D-Day had no bayonet lugs. Consider it a very late war feature. But, as with all US military weapons that went through depots for repair and refitting, later features were added so became common even on WWII guns used later or surplussed out. |
