it was a MWO came through and we had to replace any that came our way. there was more mwo's on carbine than any other gun. | ||||||

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: The bayonet lug was approved for standard on 10 May 1944, but would have taken some time to work into the system. The M1A1 folding stock carbines many Airborne troops were known to have used on D-Day had no bayonet lugs. Consider it a very late war feature. But, as with all US military weapons that went through depots for repair and refitting, later features were added so became common even on WWII guns used later or surplussed out. |
