I have no way to prove it, but I was once told that early on TC had not figured out how to make a good stainless barrel, but that their chrome moly barrels were pretty good. Too bad I didn't know that before buying the Contender carbine in stainless...
BTW, accuracy with this one isn't AWFUL, it will usually group about 1 1/2 MOA. I'd hoped that it could be a light "walking" varmint rifle but I'd want better accuracy in a varmint rifle. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: I had a "good acquaintance" at my club about 20 years ago who was still big into metallic silhouette and he shot T/Cs religiously, but of his large collection, I don't think a single one had a factory barrel. That suggests to me that you are spot on about the barrels. And your and Herb's shooting of the Bulberry certainly adds evidence on your behalf. I always wanted a T/C myself, early on a Contender carbine, then later an Encore when they came out, but I now it seems a custom barrel would be the way to go if really good groupability is desired. |
