IIRC, there were 6 parts required to convert an M1 Carbine to M2, plus you needed a different stock or a modified stock to accommodate the selector lever. The Type 3 magazine catch/release was developed to handle the 30-rd magazine which (obviously) was heavier when loaded than a 15-rd magazine.
USMC initially went to Korea in 1950 with a lot of M2 Carbines, but with only 15-rd magazines. That eventually changed to 30-rd magazines as standard. Not many bursts available with a 15-rd magazine, eh? Harvey |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: would be a lot of things to change out to make a M1 INTO A M2 they use a round bolt to get the weight up,. frame also had to be cut to take lever spring. a operating slide with trip cam on it a disconnector added along with m-2 hammer. also a longer magazine catch. can be done but is a job |
