Section 8: Handguns Subject: 1911 and VIS 35 Msg# 1147823

I was teasing, but the Radom, or Vis wz35, is somewhat unknown to many gun guys other than collectors, even though it was produced in large numbers and is not rare. And it has lines similar to a 1911. In truth though many pistols have lines like a 1911 but completely different innards--like many of the Spanish pistols that sellers often describe as "Spanish 1911s," not knowing any better. Bottom line, you're really not alone in not knowing what the levers are for on a "Radom." Radom, by the way, while being the name many associate with the Model 35 pistol, is actually Radom, Poland, the city where these pistols were originally made. | ||||||

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: I'll admit that I'm not the geek I was and that I've forgotten a lot of what I did know from simple disuse, but the Radom never really was on my radar, at least not to the extent that I knew its innards. I just saw it as a semi-auto somewhat similar in appearance to a 1911. I did have the opportunity to buy one many years ago for $40 (around $300 today) but my reaction was "What, a Polish pistol? I'm too smart to fall for that!" See, even Stu Wayne was once young and foolish. Stu |
