148 grain hollow-base wadcutters were my chosen diet for my PPC guns as well, the soft cold-formed ones from Star.
An afternoon's shooting on the outdoor range usually used up about 300 rounds, so our cleaning intervals weren't necessarily that different. As to a revolver taking six times as long as a semi-auto to clean, you may be much more finicky than I! I always tear down my semis to clean but hardly ever do with my revolvers. No big difference to me... Stu |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Maybe my trouble was based on never buying soft lead bullets, but rather buying the hard lead bullets advertised to reduce leading. It seemed to me that even jacketed bullets finally built a burn ring in the cylinder chambers but they were not as bad as the rings from hard lead bullets. I rarely shot jacketed .38 Special bullets, I always liked the 148-grain wadcutters. I also hate to clean guns (except for my carry guns) and rarely clean a non-carry handgun until it has a few hundred rounds through it. That could also be a contributor. I especially hate cleaning revolvers since it seems to take as long as cleaning 6 semi autos... |
