 I always believed the forward assist was conceived to solve the "problem" of dirty ammo and/or dirty chambers during wartime, specifically in Vietnam jungles....

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: If I were ever to want an M16, What's that old saying -- "when pigs fly". Though even the forward assist on the A1 would be foreign to me.. With all the brands and variations of AR15s I have had over the years, I don't believe I have ever used the forward assist. I don't even know if they were functional 'cause I never even pushed one to see if it moved! Harvey |
